Registration - UBD 657G Chassis No. - AR1481958 M.O.T. - TBC Odometer - 80,000 This stunning lefthand drive Spider (or Duetto if you prefer) was first UK registered in December 2020. It has recently benefited from a no-expense-spared respray and comes with a history file containing no less than $28,000 worth of invoices covering the repaint and other recent maintenance. For example, the brakes were overhauled and the calipers renewed. The radiator, petrol tank, headlight, headlight covers and hub caps were also replaced, new Michelin tyres installed and the Alfa treated to a full service and fresh fluids. Finished in the classic Spider combination of red bodywork and black hood and interior trim, this show condition example appears to want for nothing, and is presently considered by the proud vendor to have ‘excellent’ fuel-injected 1750 engine, five-speed manual gearbox, bodywork, paintwork and upholstery. The vendor informs us that the car was under the ownership of the previous owner for over forty years. He is now offering the car for sale complete with the aforementioned history file, owner’s manual, Alfa-branded floor mats, period push-button radio and a brand new MOT. The odometer presently stands at 80,823 kilometres (ie a modest 50,514 miles) and it’s likely to be quite a while before another Spider of this calibre comes along. If you’re old enough to remember The Graduate and are still dreaming of Anne Bancroft, then you won’t let ‘UBD 657G’ slip through the net! The Spider first broke cover at the 1961 Turin Motorshow, though production did not commence until 1966. The pretty two-seat roadster, then known as the ‘Duetto’, is said to have been the last project with which ‘Pinin’ Farina was personally associated, and it was his company that produced the monocoque body at its plant in Grugliasco. Just one year later the model was immortalised by the Dustin Hoffman film ‘The Graduate’. The chassis was based on that of the Giulia 105 and the Series One examples were powered by a 1,570cc version of Alfa’s sonorous four-cylinder twin-cam unit. In 1968, the Duetto was replaced by the 1750 (1,779cc) Spider Veloce.
