Registration – GKE 169 Chassis No. – WLB25 M.O.T. - Exempt Odometer - 19,607 This unrestored Hooper-bodied Wraith limousine has been in regular use as a wedding car but, though presented in a suitable shade of ivory is in fact a Masons Black example that had been wrapped to suit its deployment. The driver’s compartment is trimmed in black leather, while all seating rear of the division is upholstered in light-brown cloth. With the occasional seats in use, there is luxurious accommodation for five adults in the rear compartment, while there should be ample room for their luggage in the trunk behind. The vendor volunteers that the Wraith would now benefit from the removal of the wrapping, the treatment of some areas of corrosion and a repaint in a colour of the next keeper’s choice. He currently classes the straight-six engine, four-speed manual gearbox and upholstery as ‘good’, and the coachwork and paintwork as ‘below average’. He is now offering this grand old limousine complete with dual klaxons, centre-mounted auxiliary driving light, wing mirrors, Spirit of Ecstasy radiator mascot, plus flashing indicators in deference to the needs of modern traffic. The Wraith was a short-lived model that replaced the 25/30 and was manufactured as a rolling chassis by Rolls-Royce at its Derby factory from 1938 to 1939. The chassis were clothed by independent coachbuilders to the taste of the customers. The word Wraith is Scottish for ghost and therefore complemented the company’s established naming policy. The Wraith was powered by a straight-six engine of 4,257cc capacity, which drove through a four-speed manual gearbox. Just 491 chassis were laid down before hostilities brought production to a premature end. In summary: • A Masons Black example that’s currently wrapped in ivory • Features limousine coachwork by Park Ward • In unrestored condition, but bodywork would now benefit from some attention
