Registration - POY 637F Chassis No. - 1J1879DN M.O.T. - Exempt Odometer - 80,000 Resplendent in dark green that’s complemented by tan leather interior trim and a set of recently-added chrome wire wheels, this tidy-looking example of the last of the Jaguar MKII breed has had a total of 13 owners. The most recent keeper acquired it eight months ago from a friend whose father had retained the car for many years. The vendor informs us that ‘POY 637F’ ‘drives beautifully with excellent oil pressure’, and adds that ‘it is very solid and clean underneath, has good though not perfect paintwork, and chrome that’s good in most places apart from a degree of pitting on the bumpers’. In recent times the 240 has been the recipient of new hubs and bearings all round, a stainless steel exhaust system, electronic ignition, larger fuel pump and new overdrive switch. We understand that everything is in working order apart from the rev counter, though the temperature gauge’s output is apparently somewhat intermittent. The Jaguar is now offered complete with: leather bonnet straps; headlight grilles; wing mirrors; history files full of invoices, old MOTs, and tax discs; plus the original handbook. Comprising a monocoque bodyshell equipped with independent coil-sprung front suspension, well located live rear axle and disc brakes all-round, Jaguar’s MKII could be specified with a 2.4, 3.4 or 3.8-litre version of the company’s race-proved XK engine. Launched in 1959, the model was superseded by the barely changed 240 and 340 in September 1967; interim models that were themselves phased out at the introduction of the XJ6 in 1968. A total of 91,222 MKIIs, 240s and 340s were produced, 29,619 of which were equipped with the 2.4-litre engine.
