Registration - RAS 167 Chassis No. - BJ47810 M.O.T. - Exempt Odometer - 29,388 This lovely lefthand drive Citroën is surely one for the collectors among you. A 1953 example powered by the 1.9-litre engine, it is understood to have had single family ownership in France before being imported to the UK in 1999. The indicate mileage of just 29,388 kilometres (18,367 miles) is believed to be totally genuine, meaning the Citroën has averaged a mere 262 miles per annum from new. Finished in black (most were) and trimmed in grey cloth, ‘RAS 167’ is presently considered by the vendor to have ‘excellent’ upholstery, and ‘good’ engine, transmission, bodywork and paintwork. A seemingly splendid example of French engineering that deserves a suitably caring new home. Ever the innovator, Citroën introduced the Traction Avant to a stunned world in 1934. Its name (effectively French for frontwheel drive) was actually a relatively minor part of the story, and gave little clue to how technically advanced a car this was. In fact, this was the model that pioneered the mass-production of unitary construction – the mode of manufacture that would slowly but surely become universal. The effect was dramatic, for by forsaking a conventional chassis, Citroën was able to achieve the low, wide stance that visually separated the Traction Avant from every other car on the road. In addition, it featured independent front suspension, the aforementioned frontwheel drive and hydraulic brakes. Over time, the model was powered by a range of engines varying in capacity from 1.3 to 2.9-litres, all of which drove through a three-speed manual gearbox with column/dash shift. Production continued until the mid ‘50s, when the Traction Avant was replaced by the equally revolutionary DS. In summary: • In single French family ownership for 46 years • Just 29,388 kilometres (18,367 miles) travelled from new • A rare opportunity for Citroën aficionados everywhere
