Registration - TSX 215K Chassis No. - FJ43-24443 M.O.T. - Exempt Odometer - 18,860 ‘TSX 215K’ was originally owned by a European royal family, who exported it to Kenya. It was acquired by the current keeper in 1997 and it was he who brought the Toyota to these shores in 2008, where it has been kept it in storage until now. It has had no less than £10,000 lavished on it in recent times, work that included the installation of a new 3,878cc engine, clutch and brake pipes etc. The Toyota’s specification includes a roof hatch and no less than four spare wheels, the stowage of which is split between the roof bars and rear door. The vendor informs us that the 4x4 is ‘solid and rot free, but would benefit from a repaint’ and he currently grades all major aspects of the truck as ‘average’. The origins of the long-running Land Cruiser series of 4x4s date back to 1941, when the Japanese authorities ordered Toyota to reverse engineer the Jeep. With the experience of several military trucks behind it, the company then launched the first Land Cruiser 10 years later. The name has subsequently become a byword for rugged dependability in parts of the world where even the ubiquitous Land Rover has been known to struggle. The now classic FJ40 series was in production from 1960 to 1984, of which the FJ43, though very similar to the FJ40 in most respects, featured a longer wheelbase as well as increased capacity in the rear for cargo or passengers. Sold in relatively low volumes in the USA and other core markets when new, it now tends to command a premium from collectors. In summary: • Has spent most of its life in the dry climate of Kenya • Has remained in the same ownership for the last 25 years • Recently benefited from £10,000 worth of recommissioning
