Registration - LFM 796N Chassis No. - BH381344 M.O.T. - Exempt Odometer - 35,000 This lefthand drive Split Screen Type 2 Kombi was imported from the sunny climes of Brazil last year. It is tidily presented in white over blue that’s matched to blue interior trim. It is UK registered and benefits from having had its 1500cc engine fully reconditioned just 3,000 kilometres ago, plus the renewal of the battery, starter motor and carburettor. Notable features of ‘LFM 796N’ include the colour-matched wheels shod with white wall tyres, the pop-out ‘Safari’ front windows, and a period radio. The vendor informs us that Vee Dub ‘drives very well’ and he presently regards the engine as ‘excellent’, and grades the four-speed manual gearbox, Kombi bodywork, paintwork and upholstery as ‘good’. Prior to its one and only UK keeper, the Volkswagen had remained in the same Brazilian ownership for over 30 years. The Volkswagen Type 2 dates back to 1949 and has long since acquired cult status courtesy of such diverse celebrity owners as Jamie Oliver, Martin Clunes, Roger Daltrey and Jenson Button. It has been home to generations of travelling Australians, helped hippies survive the ‘60s / ‘70s and become the transport of choice for many a surfer. Variously available in Van, Bus, single and double cab Pick-up, Kombi and Camper guises etc, it would probably have been nicknamed the ‘car that changed the world’ if the Model T hadn’t got there first. The immortal Split Screen T1 variant remained in production in Germany until 1967 when it was replaced by the single screen T2. However, manufacture of the classic ‘Splittie’ continued in Brazil until 1975 – hence the existence of the sale example. In summary: • Recently imported from the warm climate of Brazil • A desirable Split Screen example of VW’s ever-popular Type 2 • Treated to a new engine just 3,000 kilometres ago
