Not UK Registered Chassis - GXGB34GB6200 M.O.T. - Exempt Odometer - 40,129 Knockdown versions of the GS were assembled all over the world, including in Port Elizabeth, South Africa – the country from which this example was recently imported. Finished in silver and trimmed in blue velvet cloth, it is thought to be one of less than 20 such models remaining on UK roads, and is notable for having a fully functioning sunroof. The odometer currently registers a low but credible 40,129 miles from new, and the vendor informs us that the bodywork and engine are original and presently classes the ‘mechanically sound’ 1222cc engine and five-speed manual gearbox as ‘good’, the bodywork and paintwork as ‘average’, but the brown and blue interior trim as ‘excellent - in fact ‘nearly perfect’. He adds that the hydro-pneumatic suspension is also ‘in good working order’. He is now offering the righthand drive Pallas complete with its original travelling cases and an owner’s manual. The magic carpet-style ride of these cars has to be experienced to be believed. Like the DS before it, the GS was considered technologically advanced when introduced in 1970. It was as aerodynamic as it looked (the CD was 0.318) and was notable for its low nose, two-box silhouette and Kamm tail. Power was provided by an air-cooled flat-four engine and the unique specification included self-levelling suspension and hydro-pneumatic braking. Small wonder that it was voted Car of The year for 1971. Production continued until 1986 by when 1,896,742 examples had been manufactured and the model supplanted by the BX. There was the choice of four engine sizes from 1015 to 1299cc, and four levels of trim – Special (base), Club (mid-range), X (sports) and Pallas (luxury). In summary: • A recent import from South Africa • Retains its original velvet upholstery in immaculate condition • Comes complete with rare sunroof, travelling cases and owner’s manual
